want my monument to be accessible; something people do not walk past without noticing. I want it to be colourful and fun, with intricate detail that draws the viewer’s attention as well as evoking a feeling of hope.
For this purpose I have used the image of a child from the past, looking forward to a new and better future, as if growing out of a shining wrap that has defeated the chaos behind it.
A symbol of Birr’s giant telescope reaches up behind him with the image of Greta Thunberg, a child of our present and a reminder of our responsibilities for our climate.
A bright flower also grows from the shining wrap, signifying beauty and fertility, and coloured spiral forms add energy to the positive drive that is pointing upwards.
Denise is a professional member and satellite associate of the Society of Scottish Artists and has shown regularly in their annual exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy
